Our School Tour to County Clare

We embarked on our school tour to County Clare on 15th June 2026. We visited the Aillwee Caves, Poulnabrone Dolmen, and The Hazel Chocolate Factory.

We were given a fascinating guided tour of the caves. We saw impressive stalactites and stalagmites, as well as magnificent pillar formations created over thousands of years. Among the many calcite formations were two particularly memorable ones known as The Praying Hands and The Owl. We also saw an underground waterfall, flowing streams, a bat colony tunnel, and the ancient bones site of the Brown Bear that once inhabited the caves.

After exploring the caves, we attended the spectacular Birds of Prey Show. We watched hawks, vultures, and eagles soar gracefully through the air while learning interesting facts about these magnificent birds. It was both educational and entertaining.

We then continued our adventure to Poulnabrone Dolmen, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Burren landscape. This remarkable portal tomb is one of Ireland’s most famous archaeological sites. Archaeologists excavated the remains of 33 people there, and the bones date back approximately 5,800 years. It was fascinating to learn about the lives of people who lived so long ago.

Our next stop was The Hazel Chocolate Factory. This was an exciting visit because we were going to discover how cocoa beans are transformed into delicious chocolate. We observed the machinery used throughout the chocolate-making process and learned about each stage of production. The highlight of the visit was sampling a variety of chocolates and truffles, which were absolutely delicious.

Finally, we went to Supermac’s, where we enjoyed a tasty meal and had time to relax with our friends before beginning the journey home.

Overall,  our school was very enjoyable because we learned many interesting facts about geology, history, wildlife, and chocolate-making.
